Sarah Palin – Pro-Life, Pro-God

October 14, 2008 · 3 Comments

I’ve heard the question come up – Why isn’t John McCain speaking more on the pro-life issue? As I was thinking about this while painting yesterday, I thought to myself…McCain doesn’t need to speak on the issue, because Sarah Palin is a walking billboard for the beauty of LIFE and the “choice” to embrace every child God sends to us. “Perfect” or “Imperfect”. “Planned” or “UnPlanned”. “Long Life” or “Short-Life”. Then this morning, I was browsing through a few blogs and lo and behold…this youtube video.

Earnestly pray for Sarah Palin. Not because she is a political candidate. Not because she would be your choice as the best candidate for this job. But because she is a believer who is taking an incredibly strong, public stance for GOD. The enemy hates God getting press and his attack on Palin and her family (because he will try to hit her where she is vulnerable) is full force. Pray for her heart, and her ability to hear GOD’s Voice and know that He is the “God of all comfort”.

Why I put on the armor every morning.

I can’t remember which movie it is, but somewhere in the back of my mind there is an old John Wayne movie. John and his crew are getting ready to move out against the Japanese in some WWII battle in their last ditch effort to escape the trap they are in. Just before they leave, they check to be sure they’ve got everything they need. Ammo – check. Grenades – check. Radio – check. This one was about survival in warfare; it was not because the Japanese had taken their gear away or that they had set things down as they strategized in the bunker before the last charge.

Pilots and copilots go over a check list before they are ready to take off. They check all their guages. They check all their emergency equipment. They check all their fuel supplies. And more. This one is about getting to a destination and being prepared for the possible complications of travel in midair where man is utterly dependent on the vehicle carrying him.

To get up in the morning and check over the spiritual armor isn’t an excercise that has to take place because it got taken off in the night. And it is NEVER a comment on the fact that all our spiritual gifts in Jesus can vanish if we don’t do some formula prayer. It is also not a magic charm that means that if I forget to pray the prayer that I am running out the door unprotected for the day.

For me praying the armor of God is a reminder for me personally of all that God has given me. It reminds me that I am not defenseless. It is that double check before launching into the spiritual war of the day that I have already been given all that I need to survive, and have victory in Jesus. That my God has given me everything I need for life and godliness. It is a reminder for my own personal human-ness that God is not sending me out into anything unprotected. That his righteousness is perfect, that my salvation is complete, that my gospel is true and my faith can take down everything that sets itself up against the knowledge of God.

To pray the armor of God is to be reminded of all I have in Christ. It is to be reminded that because I am utterly dependent on the one carrying me that he assures my survival in the warfare.
